She does NOTHING but run away and have things happen to her for the whole book! This is not how you make a lead character interesting, nor a story! Maybe if it had actually started in the killing, seen someone actually try to fight off a demon and take an active part in the story, then it might have been a little better, but as it is I am not enamoured with it. Probably also doesn’t help that it’s a chick that spends the whole book running away from something chasing her either, though.

Agreed about the lead character. A lead character doesn’t necessarily have to kick everybody’s asses, but he or she has to at least make an effort to change the situation he or she is in. A character can be reactive. A protagonist doesn’t really have that luxury. Not if, as you say, the author wants to keep us interested.
