Happy New Years!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

It’s a new year and, since I’ve already talked about last year,  it’s time to talk about the plans for the next year. No resolutions this time around, just plans of various sorts. I did all right last time, but meh. Onward!

Put out a Syndicate book
It’s planned, half written, and one’s even being properly edited now. PaperBox Books is interested, so I’m hoping they’ll like all the stories. I still need to write 3 stories for the book I’m working on and then edit everything, but it’s super exciting. Must work super hard!

Get out something for Final Snow (And rename)
VIcki and I are both so busy, but I’d like to have the first episode done by the end of the year. Or, you know, at least the trailer. Have some stuff we can sit on and put out something. Still, I have to find voice actors and hopefully track down someone to do sound and make the soundtrack. Also, I need to rename and I need to do more edits and writing and cutting the script into episodes. Should be interesting.

Finish Sybil of Destiny (And rename)
It’s had an edit done. It really needs another one, though, and once that’s done, I’m keeping it around so that I can possibly get it published. Its not in Wipe continuity, so maybe it has a shot. Well, not strictly in Wipe continuity, anyway.

Start on Dreamscape
I wrote Dreamscape a while ago and now I’m thinking it’s about time to get around to finally rewriting it. It really does need a total rewrite. I think I know how I’m going to rework the story now, so it’s about time to take it, a chapter at a time, and start fixing it into something I can actually edit.

Keep up the videos
The videos are really fun. I want to keep them up, maybe even do a full year’s worth of them. Maybe even do longer ones more often. Heck, maybe even get a real camera (Just using a Canon Powershot from a couple years ago) and do something with actual production value. Heh, no, real production values are not happening.

I’m sure there’s more. There’s other things I want to do, but not that I’ve necessarily planned on. Plot out Twilight (Not the crappy sparkling vampire series) and Atlantis Project, for instance. And there’s a webcomic I’ve been asked to write. With any luck, it will be a productive and creative year. Should be fun.

Those are my plans. What’re the rest of you doing for the year?

End of Year Wrap Up

Monday, December 21st, 2009

I am royally sucking at getting things done right now and I choose to blame it on Christmas and New Years stress. Granted, I finished my shopping last week and haven’t even gotten a work shift in a while to add any stress or work, for some reason I’m completely exhausted and can’t get myself to get any of the multitudes of projects I should be doing done.

But an update of sorts first. It’s close to the end of the year and I don’t think I’m going to get much else done this year, so might as well do the wrap up now so that I can recover from the year and be fresh for the new year. Yes, I know it’s early and there’s still Christmas and New Years left, but dammit, I’m tired.

So let’s start this little recap with the resolutions from the beginning of the year. There were only seven and in the end only one remains standing. After sending out 23 manuscripts, all of them have as of yet failed to actually be published as of yet. However, there is hope, which I will get to in a bit.

What have I done in the past year? I’ve graduated from university with my Bachelors. I’ve found that I can keep learning about my indented area of interest without going to school and I don’t really care that much about the masters as I do about understanding storytelling in all it’s many weird forms.

I’ve worked two jobs consistently. I’ve met several people in the industry who give me hope that it’s not completely hopeless to find a good job that I will enjoy if I keep at it.

I’ve tried very hard to get published and, despite failing, been persistent and haven’t given up hope. I’ve written several new stories to add to my repertoire. I’ve completed Raven Project’s first draft, which I have been trying to do since my first year of University. I’ve written another novel which looks to be the start of a series, which I would very much like to pursue and does not tie into Wipe.

I’ve revamped my site and gotten up the start of a project tracker. I’ve also started on a comic video review series and I’m having quite a bit of fun with that.

I’ve also met PaperBox Books, who is interested in publishing me so long as I can learn to take a full edit. In dealing with them, I’ve learned that my ego needs to toughen the heck up because I really should be done with that edit by now.

I’ll talk about the new year and my hopes for that in the actual new year, but in the mean time I’m going to get hot chocolate and I’m going to ride the rest of the year out as best I can. Also, comic reviews next week. Because there’s still a week of comics left in the year.

Day 24 – Just Starting

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

It’s a bit of a late start for the day, but that’s all right. I’m well past my target of finishing two novels for the month and am now working on a third. And, technically speaking, I passed another one of those resolutions I was working towards too. I said I wanted to write 10 shorts. I’ve written 8 and a second novel on top of my initial Nanowrimo novel. I think that counts as two more shorts. Just got to get something published by the end of December and I’ll have done it all!

Also, is that banner for this post not completely creepy?

From Chapter 2

When she was positive that only Dinah was in her room, not bothering to wake up at the moment and perfectly content to continue napping on the bed despite the light being on, Alice went in and to her washroom.

The image of the Mad Hatter’s table was still there, slowly covering in snow. It wasn’t as sharp as it had been when it was there earlier, though, Alice noted, and the Dormouse didn’t seem to be there at all anymore. Perhaps he’d slipped entirely into the teapot all together and gotten quite a bath, if there was anything in the teapot at all after all the cups had been filled. The broken clock still lingered there, not doing anyone much good and the vines shivered and slunk off of the tables and to somewhere a bit warmer.

There were prints in the snow, though, that had Alice a little more worried. The scene was fading faster and faster now and she leaned in to get a better look when a purple face popped into view. Alice jumped back as the Cheshire Cat pressed his face right up against the glass like he was trying to get through.

Alice jumped back at that as the image faded away entirely, but she was fairly certain that she saw the Cheshire Cat grin and wave at her as Wonderland left the mirror all together. She really wasn’t sure what to make of that, instead opting to take it as another scare for the day to remind her that Christmas really was a time better spent with your family than wondering about possibly not so distant worlds going through trouble.

(A/N: Wait a minute…)

Progress Report #16

Monday, August 31st, 2009

I’m starting on a list for next year. Is that bad? It’s bad, isn’t it?

Get something published.
I got a rejection letter! Dammit, where are the rest of those things?

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
I know which ones to write! Plot, write, edit. Plot, write edit. I CAN DO THIS.

Complete editing a novel.
IT’S DONE! Still needs another two or three passes before I show anyone, but it’s DONE!

Revise Scions.
Redid the Bible so there’s an abridged version. Got most of it in my head now, so it’s all a matter of getting it down on paper and adjusting the scope down to probably just the bible and not the individual pitches.

Progress Report #15

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

I remembered!

Get something published.
Come on, rejection letters!

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
Got one in my head, just needs some concrete plot now before writing.

Complete editing a novel.
I’m at chapter 7 of 19! This is so much better than Dreamscape.

Revise Scions.
I’m working on it, but lack the inspiration. Apparently the artist would like to redo the images, though, so I’ll be working on that. soon. As in now. Sort of. BAH!

Progress Report #13 & 14

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Yeah, totally forgetting to do these lately.

Get something published.
Put on hold, oddly enough, while I work out what I’m going to do with Wipe. But that’s a whole different and very long ramble.

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
I have now completed six with plans to get more out soon.

Complete editing a novel.
I have switched over to SoD for my novel edit. It’s going a hell of a lot better. Almost done Chapter 3! Of 19.

Revise Scions.
I’m bringing it back up this month. Starting tomorrow, it’s back on the schedule.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
It’s actually going to happen a little later this month and I’m still writing updates for it. An hour a week. I am doing good.

And here’s hoping I remember to keep this a little better updated.

Progress Report #11 & 12

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Forgot to do one earlier, so a merged report! Also, something.

Get something published.
Sent off another 4 manuscripts. I really like paper better than electronic.

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
Working on the fourth.

Complete editing a novel.
Must resructure chapter two, possibly merge it with chapter three and GOD why does this first draft suck so bad?!

Revise Scions.
Put it away for a while, but I’m going to pick it up again tomorrow. I hope I’m a little more inspired.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
I have all of the updates ready, loaded and done until August 14th rolls around. I’m going to keep updating it too, though now I’ll cut down to an hour a week working on it. Er, maybe I’ll explain the scheduling habit I’ve developed. In the mean time, showing off what I got!

Nice little set with a book, some chocolate, HMV gift card and stuff from Etsy. I’m a girl sometimes.

Progress Report #10

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

I’m going to need to rework how I’m getting these things done because the way I’m doing it now is wiping me out.

Get something published.
Slowly, slowly, slowly.

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
Just started another one today. So, finally.

Complete editing a novel.
I need to completely rewrite it. Not because it’s terrible. Well, yes because the first draft is terrible, but also because the first draft seems to have been mostly deleted except for the first page. So without it to fall back on, a rewrite based on my paperback copy of the first draft.

Revise Scions.
Outlines. Dammit, a novel series is hard when you have timelines to work with and events and other weird things that you need to work in there and researching things and… well, it’s not going so good as of novel #3 in the series.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
I has my buffer back. Now to keep it.
