First comic run of the year!

Dingo #2
It’s actually getting to be a pretty fun series, honestly. We meet family that he gets along with, see him be nice as well as a badass and watch him get beaten up by his ex wife’s posse. With the censor bar shades. Seriously, what is up with that?

Greek Street #7
Interesting developments. It;s always interesting when a character announces the start of act two and one of the chorus decides to abandon her post to become a part of the story. Some of the subplots I’m just not caring about, but the chorus woman and Cassie/Eddie, I’m starting to get into them.

God Complex #2
Oh Hercules. Anyway, the issue seems to be free of the typographical issues that plauged the first one and the story moves well enough. I’m just having a little trouble staying interested. There’s characters thrown in and pushed aside as well as the fight scene seeming to have not left the impact it should have. Sigh.

Sweet Tooth #5
Still a wonderful read. He’s finally made it to the preserve only to have it be not such a nice place. It would have been nice if a bit more had actually happened in the issue, since the shootout seemed to be kind of thrown in there as a plot device that really wasn’t necessary. The dream sequence could have been done anyway. But meh. Still fun.

Also, a comic minute:

Comic Run 12-24-09

It’s the last comic run of the year. Next week is no comics week. I think I might do something special for that.

Beasts of Burden #1
I’ve been told this is the last issue. It better not be since they left it on a cliffhanger that was a precursor to war.Seriously. Human warlock resurrected, massive fight in golem armour and the realization that he didn’t raise himself. And I’ve been told this is the last issue. WHY?

Also, it was the comic minute this week:

Chew #1
Those were some boobs. Also, fun issue, though I do wish she weren’t killed off so bloody fast. A highly trained agent who apparently is following her own lead and whatnot on an island with Chu and his brother, all of them minding their own frequently crossing business and dammit, what’s the deal with that pineapple thing? No, I will not make coherent sense, dammit.

Greek Street #6
It’s still odd. The more they bring up Greek Myth, the more the draw on the obscure bits (The suicide note in Hippolyta? Really?) the more I wonder just where they’re going with this. While they’re trying for a Greek tragedy, they aren’t probably going to probably maintain that form. Also, the chorus is going to do something and that just doesn’t happen.

And that’s it! Merry Christmas everyone! Or Happy Holidays otherwise!

Booster Gold#25
Nothing happens. It’s just a nice little wrap up and set up for the next storyline issue where Booster covers a couple loose ends and Rip gets himself into trouble. It feels kind of like I’ve done this before, to be honest. Still, I did enjoy the story arc overall, so the denouement was a nice touch.

Deadpool #900
Holy crap, that’s a huge book. Honestly, though, I skipped all the stories that had teh white text box and went straight to Joe Kelly’s tale and Widdle Wade at the back. Making fun of Wolverine’s Japanese, will that never get old? I miss those days.

Liberty Comics #2
A strangely entertaining collection of shorts about saying “Fuck you!” to censorship. And by a bunch of people I’d love to check out too.

Nomad #2
I’m kind of sad that this is only a four part series. Rikki’s endearing as a lead and the problems she’s facing are hilarious. I mean, her alternate universe brother likes her in a non-brotherly fashion and is about to turn into her original universe douche of a brother. That along with the question of what Desmond’s real goals are and how her high school is hell means this is a fabulous series.

Unwritten #6
I don’t know what I’m going to do with the series yet. It’s a great series and I love it, but I’m starting to get that sense from it that I really can’t enjoy the story as well in the issues. It’s good in the issues, but the trades are coming now. And, like Fables, it might be better to read the series with the story arcs bundled. But I’ve started on the Tom Taylor on trial for murder arc. I’ll decide after I find out just how screwed he is.

And to finish off, the comic minute.

Greek Street #4
This was a setup issue. It covered bits and pieces of the last one and set up the next, but nothing really happens. Eddie is not killed, as if anyone really believed that was going to happen, and Cassandra is still spouting nonsense. The women who I think might be the Fates do nothing of note and Deadelus has a monster hidden away in a labyrinth, which I think is an allegory and foreshadowing to future events. Now with Eddie and Cassandra almost under the same roof, though, something might actually happen.

Let’s hope it’s not more Eddie screwing old ladies. Let’s hope plot.

Incarnate #2
It’s such a weird mix of Japanese and Western storytelling and it doesn’t really fit. It’s actually like a guy from here trying to tell an anime, but missing some of the finesse of it. Instead, they have Hellsing demon fighting and the random school girl and the random demon in school scene that lasts only a single scene and lack of character motivation because they want demon fights. Still, they are very pretty demon fights.

Sweet Tooth #2
Gus is so freaking adorable. A nine or ten year old half deer boy that people are after because they think the half kids might be a cure to a disease that he’s too sheltered to know about. I’m loving this story, but I have to wonder if everyone who seeks to help him is going to only survive for one issue. His dad dies in the first, the big man has quite possibly died in issue 2. Someone’s gotta live.
