Progress Report #5

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

This time a little early. But really, am I the only one still sticking to new years goals, or are there a couple other people out there?

Get something published.
I got another rejection letter! A weird one, though. Armchair Aesthete (a publisher without a website) sent back my cover letter with a hand written rejection and an invitation to send something else along with a borcher. And this month, I’m sending off 8 manuscripts because next month is Script Frenzy.

Win Script Frenzy.
I am plotting. So much plotting. I’m thinking I’m going to restart it from the beginning again and not go by comic script this time around, though. I’ve come to a realization with the whole comic scripting thing. I can’t think in panels until after the scene is written out in another form first. So it’s going to be a movie script for now, then converted to a comic script later. If at all. We’ll see.

I should talk to Vicki again. She said soemthing about being interested in an animation project.

Win Nanowrimo.
November’s a damn long time away. But I’m considering a few different stories for it already.

Write 10 short stories.
String Theory is done! Ghost Hunters isn’t so much, but I’m hoping to finally finish it by the end of the week. It’s so troublesome when you start completely reformulating the story just as you start into the tension, isn’t it? Damn you brain.

Complete editing a novel.
Still really lazy. Hoping that, now that I’m home a little more, I can start it in May.

Revise Scions.
I haven’t done a heck of a lot besides character with it. Not reinventing or anything like that. Just trying to remember how these people fit together. It’s been a damn long time.

I started it! There’s a few things I still want to do with the site. Edit the pages and whatnot and generally make things display better, but it’s only got one post up. Short posts that will become a story. We’ll see what happens. I’ll start advertising it when I hit the 6 months point when there’s some actual story happening. Let’s hope I make it that far.

Progress Report #4

A bit belated, but here’s the two week update so far. Because I’m being good and keeping it all up. Sort of. Oi.

Get something published.
Sent off another four off. I have a few places with reading periods coming up now too, so I’m starting to look through what I have left and getting my editing organized and putting them in order.

Win Script Frenzy.
Going to start plotting. And try to finish off the issue one script too, but I don’t know how that’s going to work out. I hope I can get it done, if for no other reason than I can get used to the formatting.

Win Nanowrimo.
Nope.

Write 10 short stories.
I have two in the works now. Ghost Hunters, a lovely tale of two girls where one will leave the house alive and the other will not. And the other is being written for Thema, because that Math and Music topic inspired me. Though it needs a better title than “String Theory.”

Complete editing a novel.
I’m a lazy bastard?

Revise Scions.
Got started on this one. I might have to write a series on the rewrite process just because I’m going to want to know how I did this in the future. Besides, who knows if anyone else is interested in my methods and theories on it all.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
I got three months worth and I’m fixing up the site now. Found someone else’s theme to work from which should make me a lot less worried about it looking like crap now. All I have to do is get the rest of the content up for launch next week.

So, besides me is there anyone else out there still going for their new years resolutions?

Progress Report #3

Two week mark! Time to say something!

Get something published.
I got back my first rejection letter of the year! I was so excited. Also, I had two more stories ready and with Ghost back in the pool, that’s three ready to be sent off again. So I’m still making good progress on that front and, with any luck, there will be a few more rejections in the near future.

Oh, and I’m finally getting organized. I have a tracker ready and going to keep track of submitted stories, potential publishers and the states of stories in editing too. That I get to when I have a few hours in the evening.

Win Script Frenzy.
Nothing.

Win Nanowrimo.
Also nothing.

Write 10 short stories.
I’m slowly working on another one now. Ghost Hunters, a lovely story about two girls spending the night in a haunted house. I haven’t decided yet whether or not they’re going to live through the thing or if I’m going to let them die in a fire or what’s going to happen. Or just kill one of them. Or bring in the mysterious third person to save them or act as a nice excuse for brutality. Like I said, it’s going a little slow.

Complete editing a novel.
Gah, still nothing.

Revise Scions.
Also still nothing. Though I’m looking through my post it note timeline again more.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
It’s a month away. I’m readjusting it back to once a week updates because DAMN I do not have the time to update twice a week. At all. Well, not yet.

And there’s a damn lot happening with everything else in my life. YAY CRAZY BUSY!

Progress Report #2

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

After a whole month, it’s time for another update. I’ve been diligently working on killing myself with work, but I’m still trying to get a head start on those resolutions and keep myself working on those too. All that writing. All that lots and lots and lots of writing. Hoo boy. Here we go.

Get something published.
On the 29th, I sent four manuscripts off to publishers. And after they were gone, I realized all of the things that I had done wrong and will not do wrong again. I’ve started up an Excel sheet to keep track of what I’ve sent off, the publishers I have and intend on later sending things off to, as well as the in progress stories. I am freakishly organized so I don’t screw up again.

Win Script Frenzy.
Nothing.

Win Nanowrimo.
Also nothing.

Write 10 short stories.
I have written one! A little while ago. It’s in editing, reworking so it actually works as a stand alone and it should be sent off in the bundle in February. Or this week, if I can get it all nicely ready in time and find another… you know, I need to do a seperate rant on publishers.

Complete editing a novel.
Since the last update, I’ve done nothing. I blame working too much and plan to take it with me on the skytrain from now on.

Revise Scions.
The plan is to get it done this month. Not done, done, but revised fully and planned. And maybe the press kit. Actual revisions are being put off for a bit.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
Having a little trouble getting into my GI groove, but I’m still working on pre-writing updates. I have a lot of updates and a good buffer ready and waiting.

So that’s what’s been done so far. Month one done, and I haven’t given up on them yet. Or forgotten. Nervous about a few of them, but that’s quite all right. I’m getting through them!

Progress Report

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Since apparently a lot of people online are talking about how they’ve already given up on their new years resolutions, I thought I’d give a nice little update on mine. All 7 parts.

Get something published.
I currently have 4 manuscripts ready to be printed and sent off. Once I figure out where to send them and write the appropriate cover letters. So I have a decent amount done so far on that front.

Win Script Frenzy.
It’s not happening yet. So nothing.

Win Nanowrimo.
It’s also not happening yet.

Write 10 short stories.
No inspiration has struck me just yet. Also, I blame being in retail when I could be writing.

Complete editing a novel.
I have picked up Dreamscape and the red pen and am starting to reorganize the book. I’ll be fixing up the organization of events, adding and cutting scenes in the next month or two.

Revise Scions.
I’m a bum. Though now have plans to make a press release for it for my portfolio so I can keep the details of the project private while I work.

Update Genetically Impaired weekly for 6 months.
The site is being prepared and I have currently written a month of updates for it already. It will update twice a week rather than the original one because the updates are pretty short.

In short, I haven’t given up yet. And I hope I make it and accomplish it all in the year. And become a lit star and then make enough to quit retail and get a new laptop since mine’s currently trying to break.

Yeah.
