Daytripper #2
I am thoroughly confused and intrigued at the same time. I started reading it and thought he was the same guy from the first issue having a flashback into some part of his life and a trip he took with his friend. Then he died at the end and I thought maybe it was someone who looked like him. And then I realized it was about the time he died when he was 21 as opposed to when he died at 32. And now, I don’t know what’s going on.

Echo #18
I don’t know why, but it feels like ages since the alst issue. And it’s still just as fun, but now with the pace picking up, I’m hoping we get more than one or two events an issue.

Uwritten #9
The great and magical jailbreak. I loved it. I really did. All of the pieces are falling into place, though the Harry Potter parallels are getting a little strong now that we have both a know-it-all brunette and a redhead with a smart mouth and comic relief value. Now I need to decide whether I want to continue this in issues or trades, but I think trades for this one might be best. I want to reread the story and my issues don’t hold up well on transit.

Weekly World News #1
Ed Anger is amazing. He’s the crazy folk you see yelling at everything he doesn’t like for being un-American and angry because now aliens, intelligent apes and Bat Boy (Who doesn’t seem to be able to close his mouth for some reason) are even in the country. Although once again, my favourite is the alien. All level headed and a lovely foil, he’s fun.

And the minute for the week:

Spoileriffic! Sandman: Dream Hunters

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Media specificity be damned, apparently. By the way, it’s about the adaptation by P Craig Russel, not the original by Neil Gaiman.

Have fun.

First comic run of the year!

Dingo #2
It’s actually getting to be a pretty fun series, honestly. We meet family that he gets along with, see him be nice as well as a badass and watch him get beaten up by his ex wife’s posse. With the censor bar shades. Seriously, what is up with that?

Greek Street #7
Interesting developments. It;s always interesting when a character announces the start of act two and one of the chorus decides to abandon her post to become a part of the story. Some of the subplots I’m just not caring about, but the chorus woman and Cassie/Eddie, I’m starting to get into them.

God Complex #2
Oh Hercules. Anyway, the issue seems to be free of the typographical issues that plauged the first one and the story moves well enough. I’m just having a little trouble staying interested. There’s characters thrown in and pushed aside as well as the fight scene seeming to have not left the impact it should have. Sigh.

Sweet Tooth #5
Still a wonderful read. He’s finally made it to the preserve only to have it be not such a nice place. It would have been nice if a bit more had actually happened in the issue, since the shootout seemed to be kind of thrown in there as a plot device that really wasn’t necessary. The dream sequence could have been done anyway. But meh. Still fun.

Also, a comic minute:

A Comic Minute: Supergod #1

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

And this is it. No more updates until the new year and not until next week in the new year. It’s been a fun year and I’m going out to celebrate and be not geeky tonight. Geekiness shall resume when I finally wake up in the morning, though possibly not here.

Happy new year everyone!

A Comic Minute: Stumptown #1

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Third day of daily updating until the new year due to no comics week.

I don’t think I’m going to make this an annual thing.

A Comic Minute: Marvelous Land of Oz #1

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Second day of daily updating until the new year due to no comics week.

A Comic Minute: Underground #1

Monday, December 28th, 2009

As those of you who frequent comic shops weekly may know or will find out when you go in this week, Diamond isn’t shipping comics this week. While there is going to be a new Blackest Night and local indie comic artists are being encouraged to put books out this week, there is no regular shipment.

As such, given that I took November off anyway, I’m doing daily comic minutes until Thursday! Why not Friday? Because I plan on sleeping.

And now, to anything else.

Comic Run 12-24-09

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

It’s the last comic run of the year. Next week is no comics week. I think I might do something special for that.

Beasts of Burden #1
I’ve been told this is the last issue. It better not be since they left it on a cliffhanger that was a precursor to war.Seriously. Human warlock resurrected, massive fight in golem armour and the realization that he didn’t raise himself. And I’ve been told this is the last issue. WHY?

Also, it was the comic minute this week:

Chew #1
Those were some boobs. Also, fun issue, though I do wish she weren’t killed off so bloody fast. A highly trained agent who apparently is following her own lead and whatnot on an island with Chu and his brother, all of them minding their own frequently crossing business and dammit, what’s the deal with that pineapple thing? No, I will not make coherent sense, dammit.

Greek Street #6
It’s still odd. The more they bring up Greek Myth, the more the draw on the obscure bits (The suicide note in Hippolyta? Really?) the more I wonder just where they’re going with this. While they’re trying for a Greek tragedy, they aren’t probably going to probably maintain that form. Also, the chorus is going to do something and that just doesn’t happen.

And that’s it! Merry Christmas everyone! Or Happy Holidays otherwise!

The Complete Alice in Wonderland #1
Hey, you know what book I read recently? What book makes this whole story completely dull for me to read now? Yeah. Alice in Wonderland. Why did I bother picking this up?

Forgetless #1
Twitter. Completely unnecessary in this story. Also, the time jumping was not the best thought out thing ever. However, the story itself has left s many holes in it and I’m curious enough that I really want to find out more. The story of a girl who for some reason is hired to kill a guy and her friend who may also be her supervisor and, well, there’s a lot of holes.

Incarnate #3
Well, it was a fun battle. The story had no point to it, there was no conclusion and it shifted genres again for the final issue. The plot was pretty well non-existent and, while it seemed to be trying to set up some dramatic end of the world epicness and survival of the species stuff (And the species was pretty much undefined) with absolutely no payoff. I don’t know what to make of it besides learning not to pick up anything written by someone who is related to someone famous again. Or, at least, not if it costs more than a normal comic.

Incorruptible #1
A super-villain disappears and goes straight. It’s got a bit of Incognito in there, but it’s not grabbing me quite the same as Incognito did. I mean, he sold out his people and burned down all of his money, which his girlfriend (“Jailbait”) for some reason hasn’t moved. Some of this story just doesn’t sit well, but we’ll see.

Marvelous Land of Oz #2
I like that they’re focusing on Pumpkinhead, though why they bothered with making Jack a character when they were just going to ignore him for the latter of the issue is a bit of a mystery. Still, Pumpkinhead and Scarecrow seem to be hitting it off pretty well and it looks to be developing into something pretty cute.

Nomad #4
I love this character. I like how everything ended up and I like that she’s on good terms with the Young Avengers. I like that she finally met with Cap. I like that, despite tragedy, she’s still able to move on with her life without becoming a ball of angst. I like that it’s alluded that her alternate universe self is helping her out. I like that Spider-girl is inexplicably in the background of the last panel despite her being written out of continuity with OMD. I don’t really like that the YA came out of nowhere and left the same way, nor do I particularly like that she’s exposed her secret identity because those two plot threads came out of nowhere and seemed to leave in much the same fashion, but otherwise it was fun!

Underground #4
Wonderful how the environmentalism can still permeate through the fact that you’re being chased by men with guns. Still, it’s an interesting enough look at them running away, I suppose, and the dialogue is relatively fun. It’s just… environmentally conscious. And that bothers me.

Comic Minute:

In case you don’t remember issue 1 of Nomad, here’s a refresher.
