The A-Team #1
It’s the freaking A-Team! I had to at least give it a look. The cover has NOTHING to do with the book and they don’t really operate as a team at all during it, there’s no character set up and no reason to care about any of them as you go through. I guess I might have liked it better if I’d ever actually watched the original show.

Daytripper #4
Oh the pieces and how they’re coming together. I still don’t understand why Bras dies at the end of every issue, but the slowly filled holes that are forming in his life are a lot of fun and it’s nice that this one did quite a bit of fleshing of the earlier issues. Although I have to admit, I’m pretty much not counting the last page as continuity anymore.

Ghost Projekt #1
I am just confused about this one. The front half is a quick read since most of it is people speaking in Russian and there’s no explanation about what they’re doing robbing what looks like an abandoned nursery with a mad scientist lab attached. And then there’s a murder, a kid that is probably important, and exposition heavy Russian lady that doesn’t actually explain anything. I have no idea what it’s about, though I am annoyed that “Projekt” is spelled wrong.

Script Frenzy’s Coming

March 5th, 2010

So, Script Frenzy is coming up very soon. I’m thinking I’m doing it again this year and creating another side project to my other side projects. And, as always happens whenever I have a writing month coming up, I am conflicted about what I’m going to write. This time around, it’s two stories and two completely different mediums to write for. Well, three.

Yeah, I need a hand again. But this time, I can link to the pages instead that I’ve already written up, since they’re going to be projects that I already have on the roster. So, here are the options:

Atlantis Project
Years ago several children had run into the gate and all but one disappeared. Since then, the children had grown up and caused problems for them in the shadows. When two of them, the more notorious twins, came to offer their help tracking down the others, they were dubious about their motives. Still, this was the best option they had.

Onyx, the only child from that day they had managed to catch, was put in charge of a team assembled specifically so that they could keep the twins in check and together they try to find the other children from that day, grown up now and twisted as the underworld of Atlantis.

Twilight
When they moved to the city, it was mostly so Bree could pursue her dreams to become a doctor and not have to pay extra for dorms. Unfortunately, after one day she realizes that her dreams can never be. Her dreams shattered, she is lost and doesn’t know what to do next.

She stumbles into being a hero quite by accident. With Auntie Cici training her, she delves deep into what the world of heroes is like and what that entails. Meanwhile, she gets a job and tries to decide what she’s going to do with the rest of her life now that her dream is gone.

Transmundane
Brooke has always thought her dreams felt a little too real. When a group of people come to visit her in her dreams repeatedly, she finally realizes that her subconscious is a little different and she starts to discover the realms of the collective subconscious and the people who dwell there.

Here, she has the power to enter different people’s subconscious and affect them, as do the others who walk among them, but the people are split into two factions: Those who think they should change the subconscious of people to help them and those who believe it’s best that people work out their own problems.

Both factions want Brooke to join them and Brooke doesn’t know what she’s going to do. Luckily, she can leave whenever she wants.

Which one should I write?

Dingo #1
So… was this a tie in to something? I really hope so. The ending was fun, but it pulled so much never before mentioned stuff out of absolutely nowhere in the denouement portion of the story that I don’t know what happened anymore. There was nothing leading up to that talk with his mother. There was very little about his marriage to Darby. There was… not enough. It either needed a couple more issues to flesh out the back story or to cut out those extra dangling strands.

Then again, apparently the guy also wrote Hexed, which is another story that feels like it was just a small section of a larger story that no one was putting out, so I suppose this is normal for him.

Girl Comics #1
It’s a nice idea. An all female art, writing and editing team making a bunch of short comics about the Marvel universe. The trouble is that some of the art doesn’t feel very Marvel, nor do the stories a lot of the time. I would have probably preferred original stories instead, but I suppose when you’re working under the Marvel banner…

God Complex #4
That was cute. In the end, the street comes together and helps each other, Apollo gets to stay Paul after defeating the Medusa, Sophia was of absolutely no consequence at all during the whole issue and it all wrapped up rather nicely. I think I’m done with the series now, though. Something about it tells me that this is a good time to let it end.

Sweet Tooth #7
This is kind of going downhill. The focus is too far split. Glimpses of what’s happening to Gus here, Tom and what he’s doing over there and parts about Tom and his wife while she was still alive overlapping in there too. It’s just too much happening and not enough focus anywhere for the story to bring me in anymore.

Underground #5
So… the guy wanted to open up the cave to tourism. The protagonist didn’t want that and thought the cave was more important than the people in the town. The bad guy is caught and they make it out and whatnot and in the end… they open the cave up to tourism. Okay, fine, whatever.

Shut Up Brain!

February 27th, 2010

Ugh. Sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes things go right. Sometimes things become a little clearer and it’s a combination of the two. So what is bringing about this particular rant-slash-whatever else it could be? What else? My book!

As I have mentioned, I’m working on Syndicate and writing/editing lots for it. A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that maybe I should add in the Tales for the Backstreets stuff at the end, just to tie things in together and give a little exposition about the universe. I thought about it more and thought, hey, it really is a pretty nifty idea. Let’s do it!

The problem came then. I realized that the Tales stuff all had a particular aspect or theme to it, which is wonderful. I needed to switch stories in and out, but that was fine. I scrapped two stories and added two different ones to the line up and moved those stories into another book where they would better tie in.

And then I looked at the lineup and had a horrible thought. These stories don’t work well as a first book. The stories I had dealt with a very particular and special aspect of the universe which would make for a nice second or third book to show how things are different here, but it missed a lot of context.

The third book in the series, however, was all of that context I needed t open up the series. And only a story and a half written. As much as I don’t really want to go ahead and put the work I’ve done so far on the back burner, a ser4ies called “Syndicate” should really open up with a book about the bloody Syndicate and not one particular aspect of the universe.

And so I spend today writing the drabble (word misused) versions the stories so that I can spend the next week writing first drafts. That and working on that script for Terradin.

And now without videos. Because I made that new section and all that. And whee!

Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cindery Usland #1
Long enough title? This story just feels like something Ellis has already written somehow. Mostly because as I was reading it, I kept envisioning Captain Swing as the scientist from Ignition City. I think this might be another one of those fun projects for him.

Devil #1
It’s very Japanese, which makes sense given there’s a Japanese sounding name on it. We’ll see how this plays out and I do hope it’s not pandering the the manga demographic to get them reading comics.

Song of Saya #1
The art is gorgeous and the story is pretty interesting too. The doctor has brain surgery and is seeing all the crazy stuff his patients reported seeing, including the mysterious Saya and the nightmare fuel induced hallucinations. It’s fun!

Weekly World News #2
You know, the American stereotype in the lead is starting to be a little grating. And there was very little development about the plot, too. Just a bit of a mention at the end and most of it was “OMG FREAKS ARE EVERYWHERE!”

Videos Section!

February 22nd, 2010

I’ve been procrastinating again. Got my head into a new project and been working on that instead of everything else I really should be doing. What can I say, I love tinkering and playing around with stuff, and this one was an interesting challenge to say the least.

After a bit of work, I’ve finally managed to get a videos section up! Now there’s one place to go to check out all the videos I’ve done so far. This should come in handy for… no one but me.

Also, fixed some of the plugins (But the image overlay continues to fail on everything but the homepage) and generally did entirely too much work on the wrong projects. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am supposed to be working on a book.

Checked out Downtown

February 21st, 2010

So the Olympics are in town and wow are there a lot of tourists. Since I was downtown already, I opted to go and check out some of the sights, though quickly realized that I wore the wrong shoes for doing so. I only got as far as wandering around Granville and Robson. I saw the line ups and didn’t bother with any of that. Saw the zip line over Robson Square too.

But I missed all the really Olympics-y things. Instead, I saw lots of artwork stuff

A guy pretending to be a statue

Some musicians

And a guy offering free hugs

Really, though, I want to see what they do for the Olympics. Because I’m pretty sure this is normal stuff for Vancouver. I’ll head back after the Canada vs USA game because I’m not dumb enough to go downtown today.

Joe the Barbarian #2
Have I mentioned how much I’m loving this book? Because with the second issue it’s starting to make some form of sense. He’s hallucinating and thinks it’s due to having low glucose levels. And his rat who is also now his protector is convinced that Joe getting downstairs is a bad thing and Joe is trying very hard to figure out what’s going on. It’s fabulously fun.

And now the minute:

I’m thinking next week I might start working on a videos section. Still working on the specs for it.

Spoileriffic! Boy Blue Spotlight (Fables)

February 14th, 2010

Happy Valentines everyone!

And my god, this one was not an easy one. 12 volumes of Fables. 12! And he’s a minor character for several of those! But it’s done and I still love this series so much.

The Great Fables Crossover was probably the best book to come after that last one too. Depressing to awesomeness. Probably the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a long while.

And now, I’m going to try and get my editing done. It’s the Olympics, Chinese New Year and Valentines outside and the combination of all of those today is mildly terrifying. I’m just going to hide here until cheap candy day tomorrow.
